DacMagic 100

Digital to Analogue Converter

Thanks to a Wolfson 24-bit DAC, a 24-bit/96kHz driverless USB Audio 1.0 input and S/PDIF and TosLink digital inputs, the DacMagic 100 takes the sound from your computer, iPod, TV and other digital devices and adds detail, depth and added clarity to give you a true audio experience.

PURE PROCESS

Generally the digital to analogue converter found in typical digital devices is pretty poor and won’t extract the truest quality of audio from your sources. The DacMagic 100 works by taking a direct digital audio signal from your device to bypass its soundcard or DAC. It then digitally processes the audio signal using our custom designed technology, dramatically improving sound quality and reducing distortion. This results in greater detail, sparkling clarity and a deeper scale to all of your audio.

COMPATIBILITY

DacMagic 100 is very flexible and supports virtually all digital file formats including the very highest quality 24-bit studio master or lossless quality audio files stored on your computer. With three different digital connectivity options and the ability to connect four devices concurrently, DacMagic 100 is a true digital music enhancement hub. Set-up is totally intuitive, allowing you to begin enjoying better quality audio in minutes.

SOUND FIRST DESIGN

Like all our products, the DacMagic 100 was custom developed from the ground-up by our design team at our headquarters in the heart of London. Our engineering teams put an incredible amount of attention to detail on ensuring the sound quality is the focus of the product, for the DacMagic 100 this included incorporating the very latest digital to analogue converter from market-leader Wolfson.

Three months into may DacMagic 100 experience and a few things to report: 1. Connect to pre-amp or integrated amp with high quality plugs and cables (made my own using Neutrik spring-loaded connectors and microphone cable). It makes a small, but noticable difference; 2. Digital carriers like an Apple Airport Express offer good results using a Toslink (optical) cable; 3. Digital sources, like an iPad transmitting over AirPlay, sound good. Just keep in mind that the bit depth and sample rates are limited; 4. Connecting an Apple laptop directly to the DacMagic using a USB cable is really easy -- no drivers needed. The Mac recognizes the DacMagic immediately... no drivers required; 5. Using source material 16/44k or better, delivered by a computer using a USB cable delivers astonishingly good results. The DacMagic does all the heavy lifting with regard to clocking the digital signal (if you don't know what this means, a simple explanation is that the DacMagic decodes the digital signal as precisely the same beat as the original master recording). This is where the DacMagic really shines -- reaching its highest level of performance and further enhancing the clarity, speed, and sound-stage of recorded material. I continue to be impressed with this marvellous Dac. It keeps on surprising me, even after several months of regular use.

I've recently returned to audio, having passed most of the challenges working life presents. A recent upgrade of an SVS sub-woofer added tremendous bottom to my B&W satellites driven by a modest (and somewhat dated) HK receiver. Still, something seemed missing when playing my digital library... Enter my newest addition: The DacMagic 100. After hooking up the DacMagic 100, my digital library's renditions went from clear and clean to expansive and bold. My living-room now sounds like a concert hall, albeit one with very familiar surroundings. The DacMagic 100 didn't just open up my system's soundstage -- it blew it out in very conceivable direction. The DacMagic's frequency response and sound imaging is superb. It easily integrates with old and new analog and digital components that share space in my living-room. This is an impressive product whose price belies its performance. If my 50-something ears, pounded by years of diving and surfing can appreciate even half of what the DacMagic 100 delivers, then this product is nothing short of transformative. Absolutely delightful. Well done Cambridge Audio!
