Getting the most from your CXN (V2) Pt2: Volume Control

There’s a couple of ways you can do this, depending on how you are set up at home.

Option One

If you own a CXN (V2) paired with a CX series amplifier or receiver, we’ve incorporated a feature called Control Bus into both units. Remember that orange cable that was included in the box? Connect it from the Control Bus “out” socket on the CXN (V2) to the Control Bus “in” socket on the CX amplifier.

You’ll then need to activate the Control Bus function using the StreamMagic app.

  • Start the app and go to the “Devices” tab.
  • Press the wheel icon next to your player.

  • Toggle the setting. “Amplifier” for a CXA and “Receiver” for a CXR and press "Done".

You can now control the volume of your amplifier using the + & - buttons on the StreamMagic app’s now playing screen.

Option 2

Amplifiers have two classifications, pre and power. The pre-amplifier controls source selection and volume and then it's the job of the power amplifier to lift the adjustable signal from the pre-amplifier to a level where it can drive speakers. In an integrated amplifier (such as the CX series amplifiers), the two are housed in one unit, but it isn’t unusual to have separate pre and power amplifiers in a home set-up.

So, what does this have to do with the CXN (V2), which after all, is primarily a source? Well, the CXN (V2) can also operate as a fully functioning digital pre-amplifier!

To access this mode, the first step is to turn your amplifier off. You’ll then need to activate the pre-amp function using the StreamMagic app.

  • Start the app and go to the “Devices” tab.
  • Press the wheel icon next to your player.

Now turn your amplifier back on making sure that it is connected to your CXN (V2) via either the analogue RCA or XLR sockets.

You will now be able to control volumes on the CXN (V2) using the now playing screen of the StreamMagic app or the volume buttons of your phone or tablet when using applications such as Spotify or TIDAL (can vary by application).
