AXR100
With 100 watts of power and FM/AM tuner too, AXR100 is an amp to be taken seriously – thanks to an integrated phono stage for easy connection of a turntable, and Bluetooth to play music wirelessly from a smartphone. Dedicated subwoofer output for driving bass, and two sets of speaker outputs add to R100’s appeal. While plenty of sockets front and rear build on that versatility.
AXR100 is a powerful receiver aimed at listening to music, and appreciating how it’s been recorded, from a variety of sources – including its own integrated tuner. Hi-fi separates like AXR100 are designed to take a signal, amplify it and output to your speakers. Choose speakers to suit your own taste – this powerful unit certainly gives you options.
With all the talk of streaming, it’s sometimes easy to forget the simple pleasure of radio. Turn it on, and it just works. With AXR100 you can programme up to 40 favourite stations and retrieve them, without having to re-scan. Station information, thanks to RDS, is shown on the white LED dot matrix display.
A built-in phono stage is one of many aces up AXR100’s sleeve. You can plug a turntable straight into the rear sockets without any extra kit. Moving magnet compatibility means it works with a wide range of turntables – including that vintage one you’ve always wanted to dust off. Soon you’ll be playing the records you already own and planning the next purchases.
Thanks to integrated Bluetooth 5.0, it’s simple to play music from your phone, laptop, or other compatible device on AXR100. It’s a great way for friends to share music with you, helping you to discover new favourite albums – before you splash out on a vinyl copy.
AXR100 is a very well-connected receiver, with 3 pairs of analogue RCA inputs, moving magnet phono section for a turntable and a pair of recording outputs. There’s a single digital coax in, as well as 2 optical connectors. Hi-fi quality speaker binding posts (connectors), for 2 sets of speakers, mean that thick cable connects securely for an authentic sound.
As with the rest of the AX Series, AXR100 shares our house-style of Lunar Grey minimalist fascia, black steel cabinet and ‘floating’ base. This timeless look allows for an upgrade path through our range. A relatively slim build, in the classic 430mm hi-fi width, also means that AXR100 can easily slot into a much-loved system.

This is surprisingly good receiver with excellent amplifier. I'm using it every day for listening music and I've connected it with Sony 4k BlueRay player for movies which seems like perfect combination. I've connected mh hand made self-starting loudspeakers with silver speaker cables. The sound is warm with a lot of details and great stage. High and mid range is perfectly detailed and bass is very well defined and deep. The caracter of this amp is mire like tube amp, The instruments are really giod defined and vocals are nice.

Very nice modern receiver, with intuitive controls; FM station programming, tone/bal adjustments, BT pairing; everything was easy to master.
The sound quality seems quite good, glad to see it is still class AB, not a switching amp.
Overall: positive impression. It's not perfect though; there is no true tape loop function, only a "record out", so there is no way to monitor the recording off the tape. The tape output needs to use one of the regular inputs; A1/A2/A3; on the receiver, so if you select that input you immediately lose the source you are recording! Major shortcoming for those old school tape recorder users. Also, the inputs are not hard switched, i.e. they seem to be analog switches (IC-based), so that if you accidentally or inadvertently drive an unselected input too hard, with too much voltage, it breaks through with this gut wrenching sound. I found this out when I turned up my tape recorder's output, which was plugged into the AXR but not selected (as mentioned earlier), which was shared with the headphone jack on the recorder, so I could monitor the recording off the tape, and it must have overloaded the AXR switching circuitry and suddenly broke through to the speakers with a God-awful sound. This doesn't happen with old technology hard wire switching found on vintage gear.
Just a couple of minor negative issues, not a deal breaker, by any means.
Finally, wish it were not made in PR(C)C. Seems that all the better British audio manufacturers use mainland Chinese plants, vs. Taiwan or other. Minus points.
