Edge W is made to be played loud. When you do turn it up, expect nothing but a dynamic and punchy sound that captures all the musicality of your songs. With just 14 hand-picked components, Edge W has one of the cleanest signal paths available. It delivers our breath-taking, unadulterated British sound – nothing added, nothing taken away.
For all its power, Edge W is remarkably detailed. The sound is finely balanced, with a musical depth and clarity that comes through with every note. It’s all down to how we chose the componentry inside – nothing was picked on price, specs or measured performance. We listened carefully and created our system with components that simply sounded the best. The end result is a power amplifier that truly brings an original recording to life like no other.
Although minimal in its exterior design, Edge W has some complex audio engineering inside. To remove the barriers between you and your music, we have worked hard to minimise the number of components in the signal path. As a result, Edge W delivers a more faithful reproduction of the original recording; an impressively detailed three-dimensional sound, with striking staging and focus.
We pioneered the use of toroidal transformers in amplifiers, which led to improved performance. In Edge we take this one step further, using opposing symmetry twin toroidal transformers. This cancels out electromagnetic interference whilst offering outstanding power and maintaining consistent tonality, no matter how loud it’s played.
Using standard Class A amplifier technology wasn’t going to be efficient enough for Edge W. Instead we added a bias voltage to a traditional Class AB design, reducing distortion to inaudible levels. This unique configuration also produces less heat and makes the whole system much more effective.

Dear Mark,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review of the Edge W. We appreciate your considered observations and the comparisons you’ve made with other amplification systems.
We are pleased to hear that you found the Edge W delivers a strong soundstage and a smooth, well-rounded frequency response.
With regard to your comments on volume and perceived output power, it’s worth noting that the Edge W employs an analogue volume control and a Class XA amplification topology, which differs from Class D or Class AB designs in both its operating characteristics and how gain is applied. As such, the volume position on the dial does not directly correlate with output power in the same way as digital or stepped attenuators might. The amplifier's rated output of 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms remains consistent under standard testing conditions, and it has been engineered with a focus on low distortion, current delivery, and headroom—key factors in real-world performance.
The warm operating temperature you observed is typical for a Class XA design. This architecture blends the sonic benefits of Class A with improved efficiency and results in a naturally warmer chassis temperature during operation. The temperatures mentioned fall within the expected range and are in line with the unit’s thermal design parameters.
Regarding the discrepancy in weight, thank you for highlighting this. You are correct that the boxed weight is approximately 67.9 lbs (just over 30.8 kg). We are reviewing our published specifications to ensure consistency and accuracy across all documentation and product listings.
We value all customer feedback as it plays an important role in the ongoing development and refinement of our products. Should you have further queries or require technical assistance, we would encourage you to contact our support team directly.
Thank you once again for your review.

After long research and exploration of finding a good sound neutral stereo power amplifier to pair with my PrimaLuna EVO 400 tube preamp as well as to drive my 88 db sensitivity Dynaudio Countor 60 loud speakers. Finally after 6 years that Edge W had introduced in the worldwide market and heard so many positive feedback then decided to try it. Immediately after yesterday purchase and tested about 5 hours so I felt that I did right choice. From unboxing to setup process and audition from all my reference music, my conclusion is that this Edge W is a great amplifier within the price range. Cambridge Audio product has great reputation from build quality and services and most important is sound quality it was way over from competitor's amplifiers some even double of the price to Edge W. Great engineering and great design for such traditional British sounding machine!!!
i just received mine 3 days ago...i love this amp so far ...draws less wattage then the Azur but stays cooler and it wakes up my B and W 683s2

I cannot imagine more of a sonic upgrade at this price point. Not that I can imagine a more realistic sounding sound stage. Tonight, while listening to Odessa, I could _see_ the pianist pounding the keys. Thanks for a great night out without having to leave my couch.

The Edge W is an under powered, inefficient amp. Within two minutes of being turned on it warms up to 124 degrees. The 100 watts of power is closer to 75 watts because for normal listening (55db at 10 feet) it uses 50-70% power. Once it's cranked up to that volume, the Edge W has a great sound stage with a well-rounded and smooth frequency range without any noticeable gaps. My bookshelf speakers are the 8-ohm Revel PerformaBe M126Be's. When listening to Pink Floyd's "On the Turning Away" the volume was at 70%. A Primare I25 Prisma (100watt Class D) and a Yamaha A-S200 (90watt Class AB) amp both ran at 30-40% power.
One of the biggest surprises was the weight was listed incorrectly as 51. 9lbs. The label on the box says 67. 9lbs so it might take two people life.
